Jennifer Holliday
Actress and singer Jennifer Holliday is best known for her award winning role of Effie “Melody” White in the original Broadway production of Dreamgirls, a performance that earned Holliday the Tony Award for Best Leading Actress in a Musical as well as the Drama Desk and Theatre World Awards. Her stirring interpretation of the show stopping Act I finale, “And I’m Telling You I’m Not Going” also won Jennifer the Grammy Award for Best Female Performance, Rhythm and Blues. This recording made Jennifer a star leading to a successful recording career and hit songs on the pop, dance and even gospel charts. A second Grammy Award came three years later for Duke Ellington’s “Come Sunday.”

Her performances of the Dreamgirls score and particularly “And I’m Telling You…” remain popular and television appearances and notable duets with Jennifer Hudson and Jessica Sanchez continue to delight 800,000 fans on YouTube.

Most recently, Holliday was back on Broadway in the 2016 season performing the role of Shug Avery in the Tony Award winning revival of The Color Purple.

She remains a vocal advocate for LGBT rights, often performing pride and charity concerts.
