Dixie Longate and the Stage Name Hall of Fame

When Dixie Longate appears at Feinstein’s for three performances (Nov. 15, 16, 17), she’ll be serving  hot dish, then packing the leftovers up in her Tupperware.

Longate—who is to performer Kris Andersson what Dame Edna is to Barry Humphries—has been appearing nationwide and internationally since 2001 but, shockingly, has never played San Francisco before this engagement.

Her shows—which have sold out Off-Broadway runs—are a ticklish hybrid of stand-up comedy and bonafide Tupperware party. She’s actually won awards as one of the brand’s top-selling salespeople. But we think Dixie Longate deserves another prize—for her slyly arousing stage name.

It’s a throwback to the great stripper sobriquets of burlesque—monikers like Carlotta Tendant (“She Knows Where to Park It”) and Della Katessin (“The Hot Knish”).

Here in San Francisco, some of our Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence particularly excel at the fine art of wordplay nicknames: Sisters Dana Van Iquity, Normalee Chaste, and Sybil Libertease—blessed be thy names!
